It’s easy to look at the unemployment numbers and joblessness numbers and immediately get overwhelmed. It’s also disheartening to see small businesses that were once thriving shut down or shutter for the foreseeable future.

While the economy may seem dismal and your future employment may be uncertain, there is some good news. There are businesses that, due to the change in the way our country is conducting business, are hiring. Let’s take a look at those industries and see where your skills and experience may fit in.

Shipping & Delivery Companies

You have probably noticed an increase in online ordering and a stronger reliance on home deliveries during these very unsettling times. The shelter-in-place and social distancing guidelines have made home delivery and shipping  critical businesses that will get us through this global health crisis.

Some of the companies that are hiring are delivery companies including the United States Postal Service, Amazon, and other local small businesses reliant on delivery for their goods and services. Amazon, in particular, is set to hire 100,000 new delivery and package fulfillment positions.

Local grocers such as Shaws, Market Basket, and Stop & Shop are also looking for personal shoppers, baggers/register workers, and overnight stockers. Instacart and other delivery companies are also on the list of companies hiring to get groceries to some of our country’s most vulnerable.
